MOSCOW, November 11/. The Regional Representation of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in cooperation with country offices in the Russian Federation of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and in partnership with the Council of Russian Federation, the State Duma and national health authorities, will organize a joint round table on antimicrobial resistance on November 16th to mark World Antimicrobial Awareness Week in 2021.
The round table will be led by the WHO office in Moscow, with the slogan “Antimicrobials: Handle with Care”; the event will be held online with live broadcasting on WHO social media channels.
The major objective of the round table is to determine the current situation on antimicrobial resistance in Russian Federation and the region and to consider strategic directions for further development of AMR control measures under the One Health approach. Another purpose of event is to increase awareness about the issue and share the latest information about efficient ways to combat AMR, in public health, animal health and environmental health sectors with respect to this years’ WAAW theme “Spread Awareness, Stop Resistance”.
The event will provide a platform for dialog of all the One Health stakeholders engaged in the national AMR strategy: Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare, but with participation of the highest political level in Russia: the Council of Russian Federation and the State Duma.
Besides other questions, during the event stakeholders will share their experience on the challenges faced in implementation of national antimicrobial resistance strategy due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Along with the OIE Regional Representation for Europe in Moscow, the Tripartite Plus partners in Russia (WHO, FAO, UNEP and OIE) invite all interested parties to join the round table.
